Making Pottery Encourages College Ministry to Make Connections

Did you know that Memorial has a ministry for college age young people called “Ukirk?”

Recently, our Ukirk group, led by our Director of College Ministry, Mary Scine, headed to Green Cove Springs for a pottery experience.  We learned how to throw clay on a wheel to create our own unique bowls and finished by giving our pots a colorful glaze.

Mary shared,
“I asked our group to think about the spiritual connections they might make from creating their pots.

For example, while they used the wheel, what similarities did they notice in how their lives have been shaped?  How might they see God molding them in the same way that they worked on their clay?
We talked about more connections when we saw our finished pots come out of the high-fired kiln.

WE ALL LOVED IT!!”

“Yet, O LORD, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.”
